Samyama: Contemplative Limbs of the Yogic Path

Yoga is an 8 limbed path. Generally speaking, we begin with postural yoga and are later introduced to yoga's ethics and principals of breathing. But the last four limbs are only ever alluded to: they refer to meditation, proprioception and interoception, enlightenment.
What are these later limbs of the yoga path? What is the difference between 'concentration', 'meditation', and 'enlightenment'? How does yoga approach meditation and is it related to Buddhism, Zen, or Mindfulness? The last three limbs are often referred to as 'samyama': integration and bringing it all together. Patanjali's yoga sutras suggest that it's though samyoga that we're able to overcome our troubles, obstacles, and suffering.
Spend a weekend looking at the tradition, history, and mythology of meditation as well as the neurobiology of yoga. Learn meditation techniques and discuss the integration of a contemplative life and formal seated meditation into our yoga practice and teaching.
